1-THE BRIEF

The assessment should be no more than 3,000 words in total. List of references not included.

Question.

Write a critical review of a management approach focusing on an example from the creative and cultural industries.

The review will:

-demonstrate in-depth understanding of the application of management approach/theory/knowledge learned in this module to a creative business/organisation

-identify and examine any success and failures, inability on the part of the business in achieving certain managerial goals/aims

-These managerial goals can be in one of the areas of global business management, managing creativity in entrepreneurship, personal brand management, conflict management, audience management and financial management, you have learnt in this module.

Visual aids such as tables, graphs and photos can be used

2-THE AIM

This assessment is designed to test your ability to:

  • Explain in clear and succinct terms a creative business/organisation/individual creative producer, in the creative and cultural industries sector.
  • Demonstrate the application of management knowledge to the understanding of examples in the creative industries.
  • To critically review what the application of management practices reveals about the success or failure of a creative business.
  • Critically evaluate the potential managerial opportunities and challenges facing your example.

3-THE ASSESSMENT

1-Introduction to the example. 250 words approximately

-Describe the business/organisation in any of the creative industries sector, for example, a music festival, a streamline platform, an exhibition, a theatrical production, a film, an individual artist, (musician, actor)

Sections 2 + 3 = 2,500 words approximately

2-Management approach: review of the relevant management academic literature

-Describe in detail ONE management approach that you will apply to your example, e.g. audience management, global business management, personal branding management.

-(evidence of research) Make sure you review more than one perspective on your chosen approach

-Critically identify (both positives and negatives) the literature offers and that will help you review and evaluate your example

3- Analysing your example (informed by the knowledge you gained in part 2)

-Demonstrate your ability to research and present the example chosen with the use of various sources, (academic articles, press reviews, blogs).

-Critically assess what the example has achieved, whether they have been successful or unsuccessful and how.

What were the external of internal challenges the business encountered?

Did the business/organisation consider the geographical/cultural background of its customers?

Has the organisation been affected, positively or negatively by changes in consumption and in taste? Or perhaps, did the business take a narrow view of management?

4-Conclusion: 250 words approximately. What are the next steps the business should be focusing on? What lessons are to be learnt, and how can these help the business, or creative producer, do better in the future? What are the outstanding challenges? Can you think of any ways of surmounting any challenges in the future?
