The aim of this assessment task is to:
- Investigate global sustainability and SDG issues and grand challenges that arise from and/or impact global supply chains and supply chain management.
- Examine how the application of: knowledge; skills; structural, regulatory and behavioural innovation; and changes to interests, processes and technology within global supply chains and their management can be used to address a range of critical global sustainability issues and challenges.
- Analyse the best practices of leading innovative companies with acclaimed sustainable, ethical and just supply chains in a range of global industries.
- Research and report on innovative and collaborative solutions that address global sustainability challenges in a wide range of supply chain management industries and environments; and
- Postulate change and re-structuring of current problematic supply chain organisations, their processes of production, logistics, and sourcing/procurement with a view to overcoming the grand challenges.
Assessment Task 2
Using a real world example, identify a global company, its industry and its global supply chain that you know well. Discuss in detail its raw materials, where they are sourced globally and its final products, consumers and industrial users.
Include in your report a description of your chosen company’s and industry’s typical global supply chain structure i.e. global value chain/global production networks/multi-tier structures, suppliers, and their supply chain activities, processes and governance institutions.
Critically analyse any adverse impacts of your chosen company’s supply chain management decisions, processes, structures or activities on sustainability performance with an additional focus on social sustainability issues such as gender equity, ethics, equity, fairness and justice.
Investigate and highlight any sustainable supply chain efforts and sustainability governance indicators, tools, mechanisms, institutions, systems and reporting that the managers, regulators and governments have put in place to incentivize sustainability within your chosen company, its industry and its global supply chain.
