Assignment overview
Teaching practices are greatly influenced by our personal values and attitudes. This assignment is an opportunity for you to reflect critically on families, communities and children’s citizenship. This reflection will help you to identify your values and attitudes and think critically about how these may have an impact on your teaching practice.
This assignment supports unit learning outcomes 2, 3 and 4.
Assignment details
This assignment requires you to write a 1500-word reflection in which you articulate your personal values and attitudes in relation to young children’s citizenship and working with families and communities in early childhood education. Modules A (Weeks 1–4), B (Weeks 5–8) and C (Weeks 9–11) have covered the contents of this assignment. That is, you need to revisit the readings and activities throughout all three modules as well as any relevant notes for your reflection. This assignment comprises two parts:
Part A (750 words)
Reflect on your values and attitudes towards communities and citizenship and reflect on how these values and attitudes impact your teaching. You may reflect on how you selected resources in teaching citizenship in your Assignment 1: Portfolio https://swinburneonline.instructure.com/courses/5522/assignments/49448 2/7 (https://swinburneonline.instructure.com/courses/5522/assignments/49446) OR you may describe a related incident from your experience at work or on placement.
Part B (750 words)
Reflect on strategies that aim to strengthen a range of collaborations and connections with families and broader community. Your reflection must show a clear understanding of a range of theoretical perspectives related to families and community. You may reflect on your experience working on Assignment 2: Case study (https://swinburneonline.instructure.com/courses/5522/assignments/49447) or you may describe a related incident from your experience at work or on placement.
