This will be a report style format using a • A Microsoft Word document (with themed sections – see later instructions) The word guidance for this assessment is around 3000.
Your Microsoft Word document should analyse and evaluate the application of contemporary change management practices/behaviour and relevance, to a designated live employer firm.
NOTE: You will be advised of the designated assessment ‘live employer firm’ during week 1 of the module delivery. In producing the final report, you should ensure you have:
- Compared, and contrasted the designated employer firm operational application of contemporary change management practices/behaviour against a range of models, concepts and frameworks covered within the module delivery.
- You must apply various analysis concepts/models (covered in the module delivery) to identify the internal and external triggers for change, key drivers, and barriers for change. This should include any relationships with various approaches to managing the people aspects e.g., creating readiness and overcoming resistance.
- Information from points 1 and 2 (above) should be considered in terms of identifying and creating a ‘change plan and intervention/s’ strategy. Your ‘plan and intervention/s’ discussion should be supported/bolstered by an applied, ‘action plan’ which must be in an appendices section of the final report. You can refer to the ‘action plan’ when discussing the section on change plan and intervention, highlighting how this would be achieved in practice.
- The ‘action plan’ should clearly articulate the short and medium actions required by the designated live employer firm, to enhance its interventions to managing and leading change.
- The final section of the report requires you to make robust recommendations, highlight how change management improvements could be approached within the designated live employer firm. This could include reviewing the change progress and sustainability aspects of any identified change.
Guidance on themed sections
The following is guidance on how you MUST structure your report:
- Title page with your name, student number, programme of study, module title, module code and module tutor name and word count (copy and paste the above and use as a cover page)
- A contents page with appropriate page numbers
- An introduction
- The main body of the report separated by the following sub-headings
❖ Identify operational change initiative/s (maximum of two [2] change initiatives)
❖ Analyse, diagnose and justify the need for change (discussing and using appropriate models (e.g., PEST, SWOT, Force-field Analysis, Kotter’s 8 steps) to establish the internal and external triggers for change, key drivers, and barriers for change.
❖ Critically debate how change readiness will be achieved (include any relationships with various approaches to managing the people aspects i.e., creating readiness and overcoming resistance).
❖ Identify and justify the approach to change ((economic (rational, planned)/emergent (developmental, OD)/hybrid (contingency of both economic/OD))
❖ Discuss and justify an applied ‘change plan and interventions’ for the designated employer firm. This should briefly include identification to the adopted approach i.e., an economic (rational, planned); emergent (developmental, OD); hybrid (contingency of both economic/OD).
❖ Your ‘change plan and interventions’ observations should be supported/bolstered by an applied, ‘action plan’ which must be in a separate appendices section. You can refer to the ‘action plan’ when discussing the themed section on ‘change plan and interventions’ – highlighting how this would be achieved in the designated employer firm.
❖ Discuss approaches and make an informed choice around how managing change resistance could be adopted to enhance the change experience within the designated employer firm (including ethical and sustainable practices/behaviours when implementing the change.
❖ Final section, requires you to make robust recommendations highlight how change management improvements (practices and behaviours) could be approached within the designated employer firm – including how the designated employer firm could ‘review’ the change progress and create sustainability aspects of change. (Support this final section by aligning the information from the ‘action plan’).
Conclusion Recommendations
- Comprehensive ‘Reference list’, which demonstrates your depth of academic research (these should be in-line with the latest version of the ‘Harvard Referencing’ guidelines)
- Appendices (‘action plan’ to be included in this section)
Formative Assessment Support:
The summative ‘end’ assessment will be developed using a ‘formative’ assessment support approach in the form of a mandatory, reflective ‘Learning Log’. This reflective approach to your learning will be developed and reviewed during the second (2nd) workshop session of each week’s delivery, utilising the ‘Learning Log’ approach to record individual views/meanings/understandings of the subsequent module, topical information.
This is a scaffolding method which embodies reflective learning from informed information and through weekly collective discussion, enhance/clarify the students understanding/meaning of the topical areas taught. The final report document, using a Microsoft Word document can utilise recorded observations through (but not limited to) … written narratives, personal vlogs, reference to or use of recordings of organisational stories (first/third person based), photos, tables, models etc.
The ‘Learning Log’ of critically informed views/meanings/understandings are aimed to build confidence in the subject knowledge and its application to applied business contexts. This recorded information can then be used by applying this knowledge and understanding to create the final report or ‘Business Case’ for change, summative ‘end’ assessment, as well as developing varying employability skills.
