This report is an opportunity to demonstrate your understanding of key concepts and theories covered in this module and apply them to organization in practice. It consists of two parts.

A full briefing will be provided in week 3 with further opportunity through a reflective Q & As session during weeks 5 and 7.

Part A: 2200 words (Worth 75% marks) – Discuss and critically evaluate key issues related to employee engagement with relevant and current examples, in the following two contexts:

  1. Gig economy workers in the food and logistics sectors
  2. Junior doctors in the NHS-UK

Part B: 800 words (Worth 20% marks) – Critically reflect on what actions firms have taken to deal with the employee engagement challenges in the given contexts. Provide examples to illustrate the approaches taken by firms. Provide recommendations based on your analysis in the part A.

Do provide relevant references in your answers. You may refer to McKinsey, Harvard Business Review, Financial Times, BBC Business and similar reliable information sources for researching key employee relations issues in practice, in addition to relevant, recent journal papers and textbooks.

Your report is an opportunity to demonstrate your understanding of key concepts and debates covered in this module, and to show your progress in developing core academic research and writing skills. You will be assessed on five main criteria: structure – how well you have organised your writing and material; knowledge – the quality and depth of your understanding of the topic; critical thinking – how well you handle and engage with concepts or ideas that are debated; writing and expression – your ability to communicate knowledge and ideas clearly and concisely; and academic integrity standards – the quality of your referencing and bibliography. A marking rubric is available in Canvas which explains these criteria and how they will be applied.
