THE BRIEF/INSTRUCTIONS

  • This assessment is a graded assessment and will contribute to your overall classification.
  • To pass the assignment, you need to have a score of 40% or more You MUST and meet the below learning outcome.
  • This Assessment Brief is in relation to Learning Outcome 3. “Critically reflect on transitional personal and professional development and identify own strengths and areas for development in relation to professional Mental Health Nursing practice and The Code (2018)”
  • This is a maximum 2000-word assignment or 14-minute audio reflexive narrative at Level 6. The format of this needs to be a word document or a voice recorded PowerPoint presentation. Your submission MUST be supported by academic references throughout.
  • The assessment method is a critical reflection of your personal and professional journey from student to qualified nurse. Remember, the reflection is about you and your performance and transition.
  • Your critical reflection can be based on an episode of nursing care that you have been involved with in practice. An example of this will be:
  • Clinical skills implemented
  • Leading a shift
  • Managing a case load
  • Leading patient care
  • Medicines management
  • De-escalating a hostile situation
  • Cardiac arrest
  • Use a reflective tool – subheadings is fine to structure the assignment
  • You can write in first or 3rd person (remember this is an academic piece of work)
  • You MUST refer to the NMC Code (2018) throughout to justify your actions and show the reader you can apply the Code to your Practice
  • You MUST explore one or more of the following from the NMC Code (2018) in detail and how you will uphold these aspects when working collaboratively with patients Prioritise people, Practise effectively, Preserve safety, Promote professionalism and trust
  • You MUST consider the NMC (2018) Future Standards
  • You MUST reflect on how you have developed in your practice professionally and personally – reflect on how the situation may have impacted on the way you work as you transition to a staff nurse (you must have played an active role in your reflection as it is about you)
  • Be critical and analytical of your performance and make sense of the situation (Level 6)
  • Your personal learning journey and how this is specific to your mental health nursing
  • Underpin your statements and actions with academic references and literature (APA referencing 7th Edition)
  • Make sure that you explain to the reader what you have learnt
  • Make reference to how you have transitioned from a student nurse to a registered nurse and support this with academic references.
  • How are you going to improve your practice and transition from a student to a registered mental health nurse? Reflect on your journey or a specific situation
  • What have you learnt
  • How are you going to develop moving forward- you need an action plan with clear goals of how you will continue to develop once qualified
