Assessment Details
Word count: 1500
Deadline: 1st February 2024
Type: Essay
Task
“Not all methods are appropriate for every research question. Discuss.
You are required to submit a 1500 word essay that answers the above statement through an analysis of two research approaches discussed in the module (anything from week 7-11) in relation to a research question of your own choice.
In the essay, you must:
- Develop a focused question on a topic of your own choosing. It must be a clearly formulated question, rather than simply a statement or broad topic.
- Select and critically review the strengths and weaknesses of TWO methods discussed in the module.
- Discuss how one of these methods is a better methodological approach for your research question.
The objective of thus assignment is to facilitate your understanding of different methods of data collection and analysis. It would be useful for you to consider the alternative approaches that could be adopted in order to address your chosen research question.
Note that this short essay is about methods only, and you are not required to report findings.
I recommend a structure along the following lines:
Introduction – explain your topic, provide your research question, briefly introduce the two methods you have chosen and discuss which is better in light of your methodology.
Body – This should be multiple paragraphs discussing the strengths and weaknesses of each method. I would recommend at least 4 paragraphs with clear themes/ points of analysis of each paragraph
Discussion – explain your methodological approach and answer the question.
Conclusion.
