How to design a dissertation topic
- A dissertation/research topic refers to the concept to be researched and for which study objectives/research questions are formulated. The research objectives are meant to break down the topic into detailed/ ’researchable’ bits.
Before designing the objectives you must first determine the independent and dependent variables. The dependent variable is impacted by the independent variable:

service quality is the independent variable while customer satisfaction level is the dependent variable

One key thing which must be taken note of is that research objectives, at this level, must be aspects that are measurable. Measurable in this context means that they are aspects that can be tested, observed, felt or seen.
For instance when you have the topic:

You should identify the measurable units/dimensions of the independent variable (Service quality)
These may include: Empathy
Reliability
Assurance
Tangibility
Responsiveness
NOTE: The dimensions must be well documented/studied since you will have to provide the references to back them up. You are not expected to come up with your own measurable dimensions
